Location, camera model, lens, exposure and timestamps are all discarded. This is what happens by default here — there is no box to remember to tick.
The picture is unchanged. Only what was written alongside it is gone.
Typically: the GPS coordinates of where you were standing, accurate to a few metres; the date and time to the second; the make and model of the phone or camera; and the exposure settings. Some phones also record the direction you were facing. None of it is visible in the picture, and all of it travels with the file when you send it.
The pixels you see are re-encoded, in the same way any optimizer re-encodes them, which is also what makes the file smaller. What is removed is the metadata block, not anything you can look at.
Most of the large ones do strip it on upload, though they read it first. The places it survives are the ones people forget about: an email attachment, a message on a chat app that sends files rather than photos, a shared cloud folder, a marketplace listing. Those are the ones worth cleaning before you send.
Not here — it is all or nothing. If you need to keep exposure information for a photography portfolio, a desktop tool with a full metadata editor is the right instrument. This is for getting rid of the lot before you share.
